You’re
Portfolio:
Your portfolio, or
model book as it is frequently called, is a collection of
photographs showing your potential as a model in your designated
field of modelling. Your portfolio should not be endless shots taken
from one session, but rather a combination of looks,
backdrops and scenery created from various photographic sessions.
It is
not essential to start your modelling career with a portfolio, but it
is advisable to have some prints of portfolio quality, to help sell
yourself and to show to potential modelling agencies, for posting
on websites, model forums or model cards (Z Cards).
In
one session you can usually achieve 3 or 4 different looks
created through a change of clothes, make-up, hair style and
various backdrops etc. from this session you will create prints to start
your portfolio and help launch your modelling career.
We
shoot all our sessions using digital technology, which makes it
very easy to provide you with web ready images of any shots taken. These are
useful to have for both agency and independent models; they also
provide excellent quality images for uploading onto the internet,
for your agency or your own site.
There
is another advantage for having a photographic session with a
professional photographer at the start of your modelling career –
'modelling experience'. Some people think it’s just a matter of
standing in front of a camera, but after a photographic session
you may realize what hard work sometimes modelling can be. It will
provide you with vital modelling experience if you don’t already
have any.
Here are a few points to remember prior
to attending our portfolio shoot:
·
Talk to us prior to the shot and let us discover what
you want to achieve, this will help us give you the shots for the
style of modelling you are interested in.
·
Think of creating at least three different looks from
the session.
·
We rarely provide clothes so you will need to bring a
selection of outfits with you, and don’t forget some of the extras
props that may help i.e. hat, gloves, handbag, jewellery etc we can
advise you prior to the shoot once we know what style of modelling
you are trying to achieve. We may also carry some props
suitable for your style of modelling.
·
It’s not essential but its worth considering either
bring a make-up artist or talking to one for ideas prior to the
shoot (you can often get good ideas from department store makeup
artists). They can advise you on applying make-up for photographic
lighting etc.
·
We recommend you have some shots taken with a
natural look i.e. very little make-up as many clients will ask for this.
·
Before the
portfolio shoot it’s worth remembering the following:
·
Hair removal should be done at least 48 hours prior to
the shoot to allow for any redness to fade.
·
Don’t wear tight fitting clothes or jewellery before
the session as this may mark your body and show up on your images.
We can remove blemishes but remember prevention is better than cure.
·
Take high heels or high shoes, even if your feet are
not going to be seen in the pictures they will improve your posture
for most poses.
·
Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions, we want
to help you, if you like us and our photographs you will
want come back to us.
